First-use tooltip
A feature with a non-obvious setting — a tip at the first click.
What this template is for
Explaining a feature in advance does not work: people are not thinking about it yet. A tip on the first click shows up exactly when the question comes up, and never again.
What the user sees
| Step | Anchored to | Copy |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | [data-tour="export"] | The export follows your filters Only the rows you can see in the report right now go into the file. |
The step anchors in a template are [data-tour="…"] placeholders. In the visual editor you point them at your own elements by clicking, or add that attribute in your markup; the copy is edited in the same place.
Why these defaults
- Starts on a click on the element: the explanation arrives with the action.
- Once: the second time people already know how it works.
- Pages with "/reports" — change it to your feature's page.
- One step: the one thing worth knowing before the first result.

How many saw the tip and how many closed it at once. Instant closes mean the text is not needed or too long. See views and dismissals in Clew.
