Welcome tour
First sign-in: three steps to the first useful action.
What this template is for
A new user does not know where to start and leaves before seeing what the product is for. The tour shows where things are and walks them to the one action they came for. Three steps is what people finish; by step five half of them close the tooltip.
What the user sees
| Step | Anchored to | Copy |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | [data-tour="main-nav"] | Everything lives here Projects, reports and settings are one click away in this menu. |
| 2 | [data-tour="create"] | Start with your first project It takes about a minute — we will guide you. |
| 3 | [data-tour="help"] | Stuck? Ask us Help articles and chat with the team are here. |
The step anchors in a template are [data-tour="…"] placeholders. In the visual editor you point them at your own elements by clicking, or add that attribute in your markup; the copy is edited in the same place.
Why these defaults
- 3 steps: navigation → the key action → help. Completion drops fast after that.
- Starts right away on /app pages — attention is highest in the first seconds.
- Once per visitor: a repeated tour annoys people who already know their way.
- Priority 10 — the tour wins over announcements and surveys on the same page.

What to measure after launch
Completion rate (aim for 60 %+) and drop-off per step. In Clew: Tours → the tour → Stats.
What to A/B test. Test 3 steps against 2: if the shorter one completes more often and activation holds, keep it.
